1969 – Patricia Koh pursued her dream of giving children early success at the Teachers’ Training College (National Institute of Education) Singapore and later attained a specialisation in Early Childhood in Sydney, Australia. 1976 - During her following years as a kindergarten teacher and later as founder of Tung Ling Bible School Kindergarten, she realised how critical the quality of teachers was to the success of a child’s preschool years. 1978 – The Singapore government decided to include Pre-primary classes at 68 Primary schools, and Patricia was recommended to join the Pre-school Education department at the Singapore Institute of Education to equip teachers with a sound understanding of successful preschool education. During her ten years as a lecturer and later as the Head of Department, Patricia made many recommendations to improve the development of preschool programmes in Singapore. 1980 – Patricia’s involvement in the 3-year Bernard Van Leer Foundation of The Hague research project led her to recommend significant changes to the local preschool curriculum. 1981 – She was awarded an IE scholarship the following year to do a Master of Arts in Child Development at the University of London. 1988 – Started PAT’S Schoolhouse and pioneered Bilingual Immersion in Singapore 1998 – Awarded “10 years Long Service Award” by Ministry of Community Development & Sports (MCDS) 2000 – Celebrates the Millennium with six pre-schools in Singapore, and awarded Licensee of the Year Asia by FasTracKids International 2006 – Celebrates PAT’S Schoolhouse’s 18th birthday with ten preschools in Singapore, one in Jakarta, one in Kuala Lumpur and twelve Associate Schools in Singapore. Patricia continues to work tirelessly along with the teachers in PAT’S Schoolhouse to give every young child the best childhood, whether it’s through Charity Concerts, Performances for Singapore Press Holdings or its own Graduation Musicals. Patricia also imparts her knowledge through lectures at local training institutes and travels widely to Beijing, Kuala Lumpur, Kuching, Shanghai and Zürich to present papers and conduct workshops. She is also a regular contributor to Straits Times’ Education “Ask the Expert” column. To equip parents, Patricia has written 20 creative children’s story books for parents to inculcate values to their children early in their life.
