…that’s
what 30 Ridgewood children did at the NUH Endowment Fund Charity
Dinner on 19 August, to raise funds for kids suffering from Congenital
Heart Disease…
Joining Ms Ho Ching, Guest-of-Honour, and Mrs. Margaret Wee on
stage for the opening song “It’s a small world”,
Samuel, 5 and his classmates were a sight to behold. Dressed in
shimmery Malay Kebayas, Chinese Qi Paos and Indian Sarees, the children
truly looked like a milieu of cultures – there was even a
Korean and a Dutch girl to complete the global village.
The children worked hard for this moment, practicing a series of
three songs to proclaim a message of love, giving and hope at this
charity event, reminding all that it is a small world after all.
They knew who they were doing it for – children suffering
from a difficult disease, as told to them by Mrs. Eunice Toh, Head
of the NUH Endowment Fund, at a special presentation in their school
a few months ago.
For
many of the children, the second song “Happiness” was
a favourite. This song taught many to value the little things like
tying their shoes for the first time, climbing a tree and setting
butterflies free. Samuel shared, “I especially like the line
that says ‘Happiness is finding a pencil, Pizza with sausage,
telling the time.’ I feel like I can relate to that!”
The finale saw the children sing “Tomorrow” from Annie’s
musical with bravado and gusto, bringing a fresh reminder that the
promise of another sunny day brings cheer. Many dinner guests encouraged
with resounding applause and sincere compliments after. It’s
certainly a privilege to be a part of this meaningful event, and
we believe such an experience truly makes a difference in these
young lives – building confidence and growing a spirit of
empathy and generosity.
