Above: Mrs Koh assessed each parent's choice of literature with them, going over the merits and potential pitfalls
About not adding stress to reading and instilling a love for language instead, Audrey Tong comments, “I’ve learnt not to point to letters when reading.” Lim Peck Hoon adds, “My A-ha! lesson was on how I can develop my child’s interest in reading early in his life; I should also avoid correcting him and not be too structured.”
During the workshop, Mrs. Koh applauded the mother who didn’t pooh-pooh her son’s pretend telephone messages from Superman. Lim Siew Ling shares, “I really related to that story; my son imitates his cousin and takes food orders when grandma doesn’t cook dinner. That’s language progress and I want to encourage him for his efforts.”
